In 1733, the naturalist Georg Steller accompanied Bering’s second expedition. After a few days on the ship, Steller noticed a few clues suggesting the presence of land nearby, behind the fog, but the sailors refused to believe him, since nothing had been mapped. But the sailors refused to believe him, since nothing had been charted, and his logbook bears witness to this struggle to convince the crew.

The installation combines extracts from this diary with images taken at night on different beaches.
